The discipleship year programme began in september ’07 with the vision of giving people an opportunity to explore their calling whilst serving in Glasgow Westend Vineyard.

The discipleship year is led by Peter and Grace Fowler, with input from Church Pastoral Staff and external teachers. It is an eleven month course running from September to July.  The second course will be starting in September 2008.

What are the course objectives?

To help participants:

  • Grow closer to God.
  • Grow in knowledge of God.
  • Grow in gifting.
  • Grow in attitude to service.
  • Grow in character.
  • Grow in experience.

Course Structure

The course consists of :

Placement day:  Placements are varied and typically involve youth work with 4word, practical DIY work, assisting in the church office and a service to Glasgow Westend Vineyard of your own choosing.

Teaching day:  The course syllabus covers Old and New Testament Theology as well as Vineyard history, vision and values.

Reading:  Participants will be expected to attempt to work through a specified reading list and book reviews will be held on a periodic basis.

Sunday Services:  Participants are expected to attend both morning and evening services.

Leaders Conferences & Ministry trips:  Participants will be required to attend ministry trips and leadership conferences.

Who is eligible to apply for the discipleship year? 

Someone who is a member (in a small group, serving, attending on Sundays and giving financially) of this church or any other, who shares the values of this church and who is able, in practical terms to commit to a year with the church.

Commitment required? 

The discipleship year is an eleven month course running from mid September to mid July. In addition to serving on a Sunday, participants are required to commit to one specified placement day and one teaching day per week.

Costs? 

The course is free, but participants will need to be able to support themselves financially throughout the year.
